Your work is yours.
Effective 24 July 2026Viterbi Ink is a note-taking and sketching app for Android. It is local-first: everything you create is stored on your device, and nothing is uploaded unless you choose to create an account and turn on cloud sync. This page explains exactly what we collect when you do, why, and how to delete it.
We show no ads. We use no third-party analytics, trackers, or crash-reporting SDKs. We never sell your data.
What we collect, and why
If you use the app without an account, we collect nothing — the app does not transmit your notes, drawings, PDFs, images, or recordings to us or anyone else. We only receive data in these cases:
| Data | Why | When |
|---|---|---|
| Email address & password | To create your account and sign you in for cloud sync. Passwords are sent over an encrypted connection and stored only as a one-way salted hash, never in plain text. | Only if you create an account |
| Your synced canvases | The canvases you sync — their titles, drawing/note content, and small generated thumbnails — are stored on our server so they appear on your other signed-in devices. | Only content you sync while signed in |
| Purchase records | When you buy Pro or a subscription, Google Play processes the payment and gives us a purchase token and product ID so we can verify the purchase and unlock your features. We never see your card or payment details. | Only if you make a purchase |
What stays on your device
By default, and always when you are signed out, everything you create — canvases, folders, imported PDFs and images, screen recordings, boards — is stored only on your device, in the app's private storage.
- Exports (PNG, JPG, PDF, and backup files) are written only to locations you pick, or handed to apps you choose through the system share sheet.
- Screen recordings are saved on your device. The microphone permission is optional — decline it and recordings are simply silent.
- Uninstalling the app deletes its on-device data. Back up anything you want to keep first (Export → Backup file).
Who we share it with
We do not sell your data or share it for advertising. The only third parties that process data on our behalf are:
- Cloudflare — hosts our servers and stores your synced canvases and account record. See the Cloudflare Privacy Policy.
- Google Play — processes purchases. Covered by the Google Play Terms and Google's Privacy Policy.
Keeping and deleting your data
Synced data is kept for as long as your account exists. You can delete it at any time:
- Delete individual canvases from within the app — the deletion syncs to the server.
- Delete your whole account and all synced data by emailing contact@eliascorp.org from your account's email address. We remove your account record and synced canvases from our servers within 30 days.
- On-device data is removed whenever you uninstall the app.
Security
All communication between the app and our servers uses encrypted HTTPS. Passwords are stored as salted one-way hashes, and your session is authenticated with a token rather than your password.
Permissions the app asks for
| Permission | Why | Optional? |
|---|---|---|
| Internet | Cloud sync and purchase verification | Used only when signed in / buying |
| Microphone | Audio for screen recordings | Yes — recordings work without it |
| Notifications | "Export saved" and recording-status notices | Yes |
| Screen capture | Screen recording (per-session consent) | Yes — asked each time |
The app reads only the files you explicitly pick (PDFs and images to import) through the system file picker. It has no access to your broader storage, location, contacts, or camera.
Children
Viterbi Ink is a general-audience productivity tool. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If a future version changes what data the app handles, we will update this page and bump the effective date before that version is released.
